Just a though about electricity standing charges. These have rised dramatically over the last few years from an yearly average of £86 in 2021 to £237 in 2024. Some say this charge has increased due to the £2.4 billion required to sort out the 25 smaller power provides that went bankrupt. However the numbers do not appear to add up. With 28 million UK electricty accounts paying £237.25 per year this adds up to £6.6 billion per year. That is plenty of money to solve the problem. So when are the standing charges going to be reduced?
