I’m informed by David King (not of ex Hartogen fame) that this is the band that introduced us to playing sat down in a square formation.  Prior to this revolutionary step contests featured the band members all standing! They won the British Open in this fashion in 1924 with Albert Baile conducting the test piece “Selection from Liszt”.

In the same year the band accompanies A. P. Stender giving a beautifully relaxed rendition of  J. Clements’s Cornet Solo  “Besse ‘o ‘th Barn” conducted by Albert Baile. Probably another acoustic recording but still well recorded.

I do not have the music for this piece but I’ve modified the initial cadenza by removing a single note – not historically correct but I believe it improves the overall aesthetics of the piece.
